"Sands brings to life the poems and prose of literary genius Harold Pinter in this extraordinary performance. JULIAN SANDS IN: A CELEBRATION OF HAROLD PINTER, part of the Theatre at Wharton Center Series, will be featured on Sunday, November 16, 2014 in the Pasant Theatre. Tickets are available online at whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-WHARTON. Directed by John Malkovich, JULIAN SANDS IN:A CELEBRATION OF HAROLD PINTER is a rare insight into Pinter’s personality, life and works. Pinter was a director, actor, political activist, and Nobel Prize Winner, as well as an absolutely exacting writer. Sands comments that Pinter’s poetry is surprisingly personal and emotionally open. The readings are direct, honest and intimate, and entertaining to even those hearing the material for the very first time. Sands, who is best to known to audiences for his film roles in The Killing Fields, A Room With a View, Warlock, Arachnophobia, Leaving Las Vegas, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Vatel, worked with Harold Pinter throughout much of his life. The two became closest when Sands was in the 1987 film of Pinter’s play, The Room.“What John [Malkovich] and I set out to create more than anything else was an entertainment. We want people to enjoy it just as we do, not simply to have an academic experience.” JULIAN SANDS: IN A CELEBRATION OF HAROLD PINTER is an intriguing way to remember and pay tribute to a man of such depth and complexity.
1-/23 - 11/2 - “Blithe Spirit”, the smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stage comes to Riverwalk Theatre (October 23-26 and October 30-November 2). This much-revived Noel Coward classic play concerns the socialite and novelist Charles Condomine (Greg Pratt); his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira (Sarah Hauck); and Madame Arcati (Erin Hoffman), the eccentric and clairvoyant ‘happy medium’ enlisted by Condomine to ‘call up’ new material for his book. But when his current wife, Ruth (Lynn Culp), friends Dr. and Mrs. Bradman (John Liskey and Jacqueline Payne), and the always hustling maid Edith (Chanae Houska) enter the picture, things quickly spiral out of control. As these worldly personalities clash, Charles’ gets a lot more material than he bargained for. With one husband, two feuding wives and a whisper of mischief in the air – who will win in this unworldly comedy?
Blithe Spirit was first seen in 1941, and has enjoyed several revivals. It most recently had a successful run on Broadway with Angela Lansbury. Award winning director Susan Chmurynsky has once again selected a ‘chestnut’ of a production. She makes no secret of having a reverence for the classic scripts. “It’s a great Noel Coward script and it’s often revived for a reason – it’s a great character play that has stood the test of time,” says Chmurynsky. Times: Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. Ticket Prices: $15 regular price, $12 for seniors 55+ or students Bargain Thursdays $10 regular price and $8 for seniors & students. Presenting The Snow Queen and the Goblin and The Emperor's New Clothes The Snow Queen and the Goblin, takes place in the chilly area between our normal world and the mystic realm of the Snow Queen. Children have sometimes been seen to disappear from the village, after the mysterious Goblin makes has been seen. The Goblin is able to travel between two worlds, and take others with him. But although the Goblin describes the wonders of the Snow world and the Queen he serves, magical forces have long been changing the Snow realm into a place of darkness and despair. The original story had inspired the recent film. Frozen, but MMFT proudly presents a more traditional and dramatic adaptation for the stage. The Emperor’s New Clothes is an entertaining, comic tale. This whimsical retelling of the classic story includes a moral that is well worth recounting: Do the opinions of the wise and learned always hold up to scrutiny? Or can people sometimes become fooled by their own cleverness?
