This one,Let Us Breathe,is a collaboration that adds a little Peppermint polish and pre-recorded permanence to Lansing State Journal’s Storytellers Project where people used to gather, live, to share personal stories. Peppermint Creek Theatre is still serving its purpose to address societal issues and encourage dialogue, even when it can’t be live on stage.
With this project, we get a window into Lansing’s black and brown community with five varied and interesting real-life stories. Elaine Hardy, East Lansing’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Administrator explains the sources of her Black identity. Ben Hall, postal carrier, Soup Spoon server and independent musician, offers an inspiring “finding your roots” story. Tammara McCollum, Lansing’s “Smoothie Queen,” shares her amazing turn-around in the space of a year. Siso Dhladhla, local entrepreneur and employee of Downtown Lansing, Inc. describes his inspiration and success with Block Market pop-ups. Jill Chenault invites us in to her personal experience of surviving Covid 19.
This engaging hour is on Peppermint Creek’s Youtube channel, free to all and available for viewing until March 31. No tickets are necessary.
